With fans of Premier League clubs salivating at the faintest prospect of snatching Kylian Mbappe from the clutches of Real Madrid this summer, a famous line from Heath Ledger's iconic Joker springs to mind: "You know what I am? I'm a dog chasing cars. I wouldn't know what to do with one if I caught it."

The prospect of signing Mbappe - arguably the most talented player of his generation, albeit yet to truly dominate on the elite club stage as he has done with France at two World Cups - on a free transfer at the end of the season has sparked the rumour mills into life after a fallow January transfer window.

Mabppe is said to have informed Paris Saint-Germain of his intentions to leave the French capital once his contract expires at the end of the current 2023/24 campaign, sparking a gold rush for the France international's services.

Arsenal are just one of the clubs to have been linked with Mbappe: the Gunners are a Premier League force once again under Mikel Arteta, and proved they have both the ambition and the financial muscle to compete for top players by landing Declan Rice for a cool £105million from West Ham last summer.
