Former Manchester United scout Marcel Bout was among those in attendance for Newcastle United’s dramatic draw with Bournemouth on Saturday.

Bout joined Newcastle as a scout in November after his eight-year stint at Old Trafford came to an end in April 2022.

There has been plenty of attention paid to off-the-pitch matters at both clubs due to United targeting a move for Newcastle’s sporting director Dan Ashworth.

The Ineos group have already begun to address the need for a new structure at the club by bringing in Omar Berrada as CEO and MEN Sport has reported that Ashworth wants to join United as sporting director.

Now the timing of Bout’s public appearance came amid growing uncertainty around Ashworth’s future, who also watched a late Matt Ritchie goal earn a point for Newcastle
